B3 – Uruk-Hai

With WOTC getting ready to release a Lord of the Rings set, this is the perfect time to upload my first of two decks inspired by the movies (I don’t read books). This deck is a extensively reskinned Pirate deck that combines my love a creature synergy with bloodthirsty, murderous Orcs.
As my close friends can attest, I have identified as an Orc for most of my life. Back when I did foam fighting, my unit was the Fighting Uruk-Hai. A few years after joining the Uruk-Hai, I finally got to learn about their namesake and see them in action on the big screen. And I loved it!
I’ve replaced Angrath with the sire of the Uruk-Hai: Saruman. I’m not typically a fan of planeswalkers, but if there was one set that should have interplanar spellcasters of immense power, it’s obviously the one that takes place in Middle-Earth with the Istari.
I replaced the Pirate creature type with Raider, since the Uruk-Hai aren’t exactly a seafaring group. Rather than using the Fleets from Ixalan for card names, I’m using different breeds of Orcs. The only humies in the deck represent the Dunlendings that fought for Saruman in the Westfold.
While I was excited about the Warhammer 40k tie-ins, I was dismayed that they did not include the Orks. I understand that they would have been too similar to the Chaos Marines to warrant their inclusion, especially with such limited design space, but I was dismayed nonetheless. Fortunately, the Chaos Marines got the delightfully-named Kill! Maim! Burn!, which works just as well for Orcs as it does for fallen angels of the 41st millennium.
